Employment Type: Full-time Location: Remote (based in Latin America or the Caribbean, with preference for the following locations: Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, Chile, Ecuador)
Salary Range: $35,000 to $91,000 – based on experience and location

Position Overview Island Conservation seeks a talented and motivated individual to serve as our Partnership Officer – Latin America and the Caribbean to develop and nurture relationships and strategies to further IC’s impact on biodiversity, oceans, climate, and island communities in the region. Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, this person will be part of IC’s conservation team.

Essential Duties

60% Duty: Regional and Local Engagement

  • Work in close collaboration with Latin American and Caribbean partners and stakeholders to identify and secure island restoration opportunities that our regional teams and local partners can implement.
  • Establish, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including governments, community leaders, partner organizations, and funding agencies in the region.
  • Promoting alignment of island restoration outcomes with established local priorities to inspire partners to take action.
  • Leading effective engagement that results in countries’ and territories’ ownership of initiatives, projects, and their outcomes.
  • Collaborating with countries and territories to improve national strategies for effective island restoration, and invasive species prevention, management and eradication, and active restoration.
  • Fostering integration among funders, local and regional organizations, governments, and stakeholders to align work programs and adequately resource them.
  • Empowering local partners and stakeholders with the needed capacity for effective invasive species management, island restoration, and active restoration.
  • Develop and/or support regional and local multistakeholder governance structures that advance island restoration, including invasive species prevention, management and eradication, and active restoration.

5% Duty: International Policy Engagement:

  • Support international policy for island restoration and invasive species management through the UN conventions and other relevant forums.
  • Coordinate with government partners to provide support for Parties’ engagement in the UN conventions and other relevant forums.

15% Duty: Campaign and Fundraising Support

  • Support the Island-Ocean Connection Challenge by identifying, cultivating, and managing partner engagement to support the 2030 vision.
  • Support internal and partner funding proposal development.

20% Duty: Partnerships Program Building and Internal Duties

  • Coordinate closely with the Director of Partnerships, the Heads of Operations for the regional programs, and their teams to support the implementation of IC’s Strategic Vision.
  • Represent Island Conservation publicly at conferences, seminars, and official forums.
  • Support Island Conservation’s positive work culture and promote our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.

Benefits
This is a full-time exempt position with a competitive salary and a full benefits package, including a four-day work week. Island Conservation offers a flexible work schedule with a remote home office. This is a two-year fixed-term position, with renewal dependent on performance and funding.

Requirements
Travel: This position requires approximately 8-14 work trips per year (both domestic and international). Trips are regularly 4-7 days in duration but may be as long as 2-3 weeks, as needed. Most time is spent at a desk, with travel including to conferences and remote field sites. Must possess a valid passport and a valid driver’s license.
Depending on the remote location requested, must be able to adapt working hours to overlap regularly with staff in all relevant time zones (e.g., America/Pacific, America/Mountain, America/Puerto Rico, U.S./Hawaii, Chile/Continental).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in partnership building and stakeholder engagement, particularly within the context of conservation or environmental management.
  • Professional experience working directly in or with the Latin America and Caribbean region and a commitment to supporting and respecting regional cultural values and diversity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, able to work independently and as part of a productive, remote team.
  • Language skills: Proficiency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
  • Alignment with Island Conservation’s core values and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Desired Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of the region’s ongoing terrestrial and marine conservation work, as well as the science, policies, and politics of conservation on islands.
  • An understanding of invasive species management and rewilding conservation practices.
  • Proficiency in French is desirable.
