Patient Attendant – summer

Employment status: Full time; 35 hours/week,  For 8 weeks

Work schedule: Days, Evenings, and Nights; week days and weekends

Salary: 15,75$ hour;

Located in the heart of NDG, Les Habitations adaptées et accessibles Tango is a non-for-profit organization offering adapted and affordable housing to low-income adults, ages 18 to 55, living with physical limitations or handicaps requiring no more than 2 to 3 hours of personal care per day.

Under the supervision of the Director of Services, you will be responsible for a set of tasks aimed at supporting the residents in accomplishing daily activities. You must work with the residents to foster and encourage their continued involvement in individual and community activities with a vision towards empowerment and self-determination.

 

Principal Responsibilities

SUMMARY

You are assigned to customer service and will be expected to primarily perform duties related to the supervision, comfort and well-being of the tenants, including housekeeping duties and assisting with meal preparation, on an as needed basis.

You will assist the tenants in their movements and will ensure their hygiene. You will provide basic care to tenants and may be called upon to install certain equipment for which you will be trained.

You will report to the Director of services and inform her/him about the tenants’ behaviour and change of behaviour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

More precisely the incumbent:

• Supports tenants with activities of daily living according to tenants’ service plan.
• Helps with personal hygiene, including showers and grooming
• Assists in using washrooms, including using lifts and incontinence products if needed
• Dresses, undresses, applies, or removes prosthesis, corsets, etc.
• Helps with getting around, i.e. preparing for outings, opening windows, etc.
• Transfers (ex.: from the wheelchair to bed), including ceiling lifts according to the tenant’s needs
• Assists in meal preparation, service, and other related tasks e.g. cutting meat, washing dishes, etc.
• Manages tanants’ personal needs such as laundry (including proper sorting, folding, and putting away once dry)
• Changes bedding, linens and towels regularly as required
• Performs housekeeping tasks in each tenant’s apartment as well as all other common areas at Tango
• Performs other related tasks

Education/Qualifications:  

• Diploma (DEP) in Health Assistance and Nursing recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec  OR in process of obtaining it.
• Secondary V Diploma Or equivalent
• PDSB (programme de déplacement sécuritaire des bénéficiaires) certification
• Experience in working with people living with physical disabilities
• Ability to perform basic housekeeping duties and prepare meals
• Proficiency in both official languages
