Summary of Job Duties:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School, GED or formal educational equivalent.
  • Health Care Experience.
  • Patient Care Experience.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Military Corpsman.
  • Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of patient care technician course is required within 3 months of employment.
  • CPR Certified/Licensed.
  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting.

  • The PCT must pass the required competencies.
  • The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards.
  • The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination.
  • Assists with medical procedures and examinations.
  • Conducts patient interviews, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and phlebotomy.
  • Performs EKG’s, basic dressing changes.
  • Performs administrative tasks by registering and scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, etc. using the various registration and scheduling systems.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
