Overview of position:
CTG is sourcing candidates for this role on behalf of our client “WIPO”.

Organizational setting:
The post is located in the Office of the PCT Legal & International Affairs Department. The department is responsible for marketing the PCT’s products & services in support of current & future PCT stakeholders.

Purpose statement:
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading the development & execution of the PCT Strategic Marketing Plan (PCT SMP).
The main role of the selected candidate will be to analyze the current PCT practice (organization, products / services, processes, outreach, customer service & customer needs), conduct research on current / potential stakeholders, benchmark the PCT products & services in the global environment, determine the most effective way to reach target audiences & establish marketing goals, all in order to enable PCT stakeholders to choose the PCT international route when deciding on filing a patent application.

The selected candidate will perform the following principal duties:
Develop, manage & implement a Strategic Marketing Plan (SMP) for the PCT. Drive innovative approaches & capitalize on new opportunities in developing a roadmap that will deepen existing stakeholder relationships & create new stakeholder relationships.
Analyze current PCT approach to stakeholders, taking into account the organization, processes, products & services, outreach methods & customer service strategies to determine the impact on our provision of PCT products & services, amid changing customer expectations in order to deliver best in class customer service.
Conduct market research & collect data to develop a deep understanding of our current / potential stakeholders (corporations, individuals, governments, PCT member states & potential member states, industrial property offices, PCT international authorities & intergovernmental & non governmental organizations), learn customer expectations & other developments that have an impact on our provision of current & future PCT products & services to ensure our continued leadership position. Leverage existing & additional relevant technologies including data & analytics.
Collaborate closely with relevant business units & cross sectoral marketing initiatives across the organization, in particular with the customer experience section of the infrastructure & platforms sector.
Benchmark current PCT products & services against competition in a global environment to determine if the PCT is providing the stakeholder desired products & services (product, pricing, plan & promotion). Analyze & determine the target stakeholder audience of the PCT products & services & determine the optimal methods to effectively reach that audience.
Develop & set marketing goals to improve, branding & media presence, product & service offerings to current & future PCT stakeholders (including PCT member states, industrial property offices, PCT international authorities, intergovernmental & non governmental organizations & individual users), customer service, all in order to enable PCT stakeholders to choose the PCT international route when deciding on filing a patent application.
Develop a sustainable means of implementing the PCT SMP to account for the future needs of the PCT with a view toward increasing PCT’s efficiencies in a cost effective manner & growing PCT’s outreach to stakeholders through acquisition of new customers & retention of existing customers.
Develop a strategy to measure the results & success of the PCT SMP against the established goals. Identify potential areas for improvement & their respective solutions to deliver best in class customer service. Support the creation of a comprehensive composite indicator to evaluate customer satisfaction.
Stay abreast of new marketing technologies & tools as they may be applied to PCT products & services.
Prepare work plans, reports & other administrative documents.
Perform other related duties, as required.

Project reporting:
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Senior Director, PCT Legal & International Affairs Department.

Education (essential):
Advanced university degree in marketing, communications, customer service, management & administration, science based disciplines or related fields. A first level university degree in any subject with two years of relevant experience, in addition to the experience requested below, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience (essential):
At least seven years of broad experience in market development / marketing communication functions in a large, diverse organization, preferably with B2B & / or B2C companies with regional / global coverage, with a focus on building integrated marketing plans & holistic customer experiences.
Experience developing marketing plans & in the deployment of marketing strategies in a systemic integrated way.
Experience managing change.

Experience (desirable):
Experience in market development / marketing communication in legal services, preferably in intellectual property.
Experience in managing client relationships.
Experience in managing complex projects involving stakeholders from different backgrounds & cultures.

Language (essential):
Excellent knowledge of English.

Language (desirable):
Good knowledge of French & any other United Nations official language.

Team management:
The selected candidate will collaborate & coordinate closely with all areas of WIPO, including the digital content team in PTS, as well as the customer experience section, in the infrastructure & platforms sector, to develop & deliver a marketing strategy that will help drive the PCT’s ability to provide the full benefits of our global IP services including best in class customer service to current & future PCT stakeholders.

Information:
WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General & may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions & / or to another duty station.

Annual salary:
Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes & before medical insurance & pension fund deductions) in US dollars & a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable & subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the July 2024 rate of 88.4%
Salaries & allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Additional information:
Initial fixed term appointment of two years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance & other applicable conditions. The selected candidate’s appointment will be subject to an overall term of five years in this position, with no possibility of renewal beyond that term. S / he may, however, apply & be considered for other positions at WIPO.
This is not applicable to WIPO staff members on fixed term, continuing or permanent appointments, who were recruited following a competition under Staff Regulation 4.10 (“Appointment Boards”).
