Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is a diaconal organisation mandated by churches and Christian organisations in Norway to work with people around the world to eradicate poverty and injustice.

NCA has been operating in Africa since the 1960s implementing large humanitarian and developmental programmes and currently has presence in 16 countries. In addition to country specific programmes in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, DRC, Malawi, Zambia, Angola, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria. NCA is also in the process of establishing the Advocacy Programme Africa with regional and continental partners to mobilise rights-holders, strengthen civil society and faith-based platforms, build capacity and influence policies and legislations across the continent. The thematic focus of the programme is Peacebuilding, Fighting Inequalities, Gender Based Violence and Climate and Environmental advocacy. NCA Advocacy Programme Africa primary objective is to spearhead the implementation of NAPA Strategy 2025-2029.

Purpose of the role.

The Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) – Advocacy Programme Africa is seeking a competent and highly motivated Peacebuilding Coordinator to join our team in Nairobi. NCA Nairobi office will establish the Advocacy Programme Africa from 2025. In this dynamic role, under the leadership of the Head of Programme and in coordination with Head Office Peacebuilding team from the International Department as well as the Politics and Society division, you will ccoordinate NCA APA advocacy strategy development and implementation under the Peacebuilding thematic area.

As a member of the Peacebuilding Community of Practice, you will be expected to actively contribute to the peace building dialog at HQ and engage with the peacebuilding team at NCA HQ, with a view of creating greater synergy for strengthening peace building programming, efforts and approach.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Under the oversight of the Head of programmes, ensure that cross-cutting issues (gender, accountability, conflict sensitivity, environment) are mainstreamed in programme design, implementation, monitored and reported on, and that NCA APA follows up on NCA’s commitment to CHS.
  • Coordinate and support partners institutional and organisational capacity
  • Under the leadership of the head of programme, together with the head of finance, provide budget monitoring, financial management and expenses control including compliance with NCA and donor requirements.
  • Coordinate with and support country programmes in drafting concept papers, project proposals and budgets in line with the approved programme strategy.
  • Contribute towards maintaining and developing excellent and productive relations with all key stakeholders.
  • Support and link up the different programmes’ advocacy initiatives

Qualifications And Requirements

  • University Degree development studies or social science (or any other equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in peacebuilding programme implementation
  • Strong peacebuilding and communication skills, with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Technical skills in Peacebuilding and advocacy.
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams, Project management tools
  • Experience in providing capacity building for staff and partners
  • He/she must have good knowledge of Humanitarian standards and principles including Do No Harm, SPHERE, Child Protection and Core Humanitarian Standards on accountability.

We Offer:

Contract period: 3 years contract with the possibility of extension.
Salary: According to NCA salary scale.
Duty Station: Nairobi with frequent travel in the continent.
