POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is seeking a Pediatric Hospitalist for a full time, Clinical Faculty, non-tenure earning position at Tampa General Hospital. S/he must have experience in a hospital setting. Duties include patient care, teaching medical students, supervising pediatric residents, and opportunities for clinical and basic research. A Florida medical license will be required prior to assuming the position. Candidate ideally should be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
The position will be responsible for providing direct medical care to patients in the hospital setting at Tampa General Hospital. The faculty member will be primarily assigned to cover general wards and the well baby nursery. (No delivery room attendance.) Overnight weeks of call are from home; call weeks and weekends are shared within the general pediatrics division and are generally 1 week out of 6 The TGH Children’s Hospital has a total of 181 pediatric beds and provides a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and rehabilitative services for infants, children and adolescents. It features a nine-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) which serves as a Level I trauma unit as well as burn unit, an 82 bed state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), 50 inpatient floor-level beds including general, surgical and subspecialty patients, and one of just three outpatient pediatric dialysis units in the state. The Pediatric Emergency Department at TGH was recently renovated and is staffed by Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians 24/7.  Subspecialists on staff include: pediatric surgery, pediatric critical care, neonatology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, cardiology, metabolic/genetics, PM&R, psychiatry and psychology. With over 6000 deliveries each year, Tampa General has one of the busiest newborn services in the region. Tampa General Hospital has received international recognition as a Baby-Friendly? designated birth facility. Baby-Friendly designation is awarded to centers that provide an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and babies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing direct medical care to patients in a hospital setting at Tampa General Hospital. Typical duties include the diagnosis, treatment, operation, or prescription for any human disease, pain, injury, deformity, or other physical condition
  • Participates in the educational and training activities of the USF Department of Pediatrics which include teaching of residents and medical students.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Hospital Physcian. 
  • Candidate ideally should be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Current PALS and/or NRP certification required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required.  To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical
  • License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties.
