Under the general supervision of the Dean/Director Nursing, delivers clinical instruction according to an approved course syllabus using accepted and effective teaching methods; develops daily lesson plans; advises and tutors students; maintains current and accurate attendance and grade records; remains current in applicable program teaching field; participates in faculty meetings, instructional seminars and in-service training sessions. Participates in school activities such as faculty meetings, student functions, graduation exercises, open houses, new student orientations, and advisory board meetings.
Serves as an educator, role model, mentor and facilitator. Creates an educational environment which fosters innovation, responsiveness, and accountability. Focuses extensively on facilitating student learning associate with prescribed course and program learning outcomes. Actively and substantively participates in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet prescribes outcomes. Vigorously upholds a culture of academic integrity
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes complete responsibility for students in the clinical facilities.
- Clarifies clinical expectations with students.
- Clarifies student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff.
- Utilizes care planning time to direct students to available resources needed for clinical preparation.
- Assesses student knowledge and skill level to ensure safety and optimal care to patients.
- Coordinates a plan to best instruct, observe, and evaluate students learning and clinical practical skills which includes direct clinical assessment of skills in applicable setting for related area of instruction.
- Utilizes pre and post conference to allow students an opportunity share learned experiences.
- Correlates weekly theory content with clinical objectives and experiences.
- Corrects student clinical judgement plans.
EDUCATION:
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college which shall include courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral, or social sciences relevant to nursing practice (BRN regulation).
- Completion of at least (1) years’ experience teaching courses related to RN or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing (BRN regulation).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse License in California required.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Must have 3 years of occupational experience in the subject field or in a closely related field.
Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by:
- one (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area;
OR
- one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.
