About the role
The Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service (YRRS) is a strengths focused, recovery orientated residential program supporting young people aged between 16-21 years who are recovering from mental ill health for up to 12 months. In a safe, home-like environment, the service provides clients individual and group based support that promotes resilience, interpersonal skills, enhanced social connections, life skills, access to the community and a greater sense of being able to make sound decisions. Young people benefit from sharing their experiences and recovery journeys whilst growing their confidence and skills to live independently in the community.
We are seeking a self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioner – Peer Practitioner for a permanent role, part time (32 hours per week) opportunity to work on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Townsville area. You will utilise your lived experience of mental ill health to deliver person-centred, recovery-oriented care to support young people develop social and community connections, build daily living skills, live independently and achieve recovery goals.
Key responsibilities
- Utilise your own lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to inform your work and that of the team.
- Support young people to re-engage with family and friends, create community connections, develop life skills, and enjoy a positive future through a staged approach to recovery.
- Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
- Lived experience and willingness to support clients through sharing your own learnings and recovery orientated practice is required.
- Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
