Your new job

The Peer Researcher will primarily work on the ‘Whole of Self Affirming Care’ (WOSAC) project to evaluate the effectiveness of a new service for trans and gender diverse young people. The peer researcher will identify as trans and/or gender diverse in addition to identifying as belonging to another marginalised group and use this lived experience to work collaboratively with the research team to meet the needs of young people.

Reporting to the Project Lead in Youth Involvement Research you will:

  • Review and prepare written materials using a lived experience lens and conduct research tasks as required (including participant recruitment, data collection and analysis).
  • Lead or co-produce research outputs as required (e.g., conference abstracts, journal articles, translational resources).
  • Assist the recruitment of young people into participation activities and support them to ensure meaningful and supported participation.
  • Advocate for youth, lived experience perspectives within the WOSAC and Youth Involvement teams and support young people to ensure meaningful and supported participation.

What you’ll need

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people. The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

  • Aged between 18 and 30 years for the duration of their employment term.
  • Personal lived experience as a trans or gender diverse young person and identifies as belonging to another historically marginalised or disadvantaged group.
  • Capacity to problem solve effectively, engage with and work creatively in partnership with young people.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of peer work principles as they apply in a youth health setting.

Note: this role requires the applicant to be within a specific age range for the duration of their employment within this role. This role falls under the special measures category in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 to promote substantive equality for a group of people who have one (or more) protected attributes such as age. This is a part time (0.2-0.6 FTE) position for 12 months.
