About the service:

Safe Space is a fantastic program that provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people 16 years of age and over experiencing suicidal ideation and psychological distress, allowing them to:

  • Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community, outside a clinical setting.

Role Overview

  • Work in close partnership with the Service Manager to provide leadership, practice development and mentoring sessions to a team of suicide prevention peer workers.
  • This position provides instructions, guidance support and actively works with the team to improve identified skill areas.
  • To support administrative functions of the Service Manager
  • The Service Leader monitors and reviews the systems and processes used in Client Services, and supports the Service Manager to respond to reporting requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including people with lived experience and Safe Space visitors to continuously improve this new and innovative service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Cert IV in a Community services/Mental Health related discipline (ideally a completed Diploma or Degree) and willingness to undertake Safe Side training.
  • Ideally demonstrated experience leading a team
  • Understanding of lived experience of suicidality and recovery
  • Experience and skills in working with people experiencing immediate distress and/or suicide ideation.
  • Demonstrated effective listening, communication skills, empathy; and the capacity to relate with others with dignity and respect
  • Ability to help guests link in with other relevant community resources and to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of program participants
  • Ability to implement and facilitate planned activities resulting in greater community access and support
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in use of computer and Microsoft office
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, carers, government agencies and community services
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
