  • Classification: SCHADS Level 3 with a salary range of $71,215 – $76,353 per annum + Superannuation

About your new role

The Port Pirie Head to Health Satellite service offers a transdisciplinary approach in supporting people. Peer Support Workers and clinical staff collaborate to come alongside guests and make sense of what is important in responding to needs and connecting in the community.

Within that approach, Peer Support Workers come alongside guests in a mutual process of listening, learning, being with, and doing with in offering practical, emotional, social, and service access support. In offering a Peer First, Peer Last approach, Peer Support Workers actively welcome and support guests across their time with Head to Health.

Peer Support Workers apply the Lived Experience lens as their foundation, named in the National Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Guidelines as:

  • Learnings from personal experience of mental health challenges, distress and periods of healing, which may include service use.
  • Collective knowledge of universal Lived Experience such as marginalisation, isolation, loss of power, and system hurt, as well as hope, healing, and personal recovery as real.
  • Professional principles and values such as mutuality, intersectionality, autonomy, hope and sharing power and the history of the Consumer movement, advocacy, and actions.
  • Peer Support Workers will need to bring strong self-reflection and relational skills to be able to apply this lens effectively with people, service partners, and in processes to strengthen the team approach and service delivery.

What you will bring to the role

  • Minimum Cert IV qualification in Lived Experience (e.g. Cert IV Mental Health Peer Work) or related field (e.g. Psychology, Human Services, Community Services) or complete a qualification within 2 years of employment.
  • Personal lived or living experience of mental health challenges, distress, injustice, and journey of wellbeing/healing, and ability to apply learnings from this as your foundation of working.
  • Willingness to share and draw on lived experience purposefully in the role to instill confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery
  • Understanding of Lived Experience (Peer) principles and the Consumer movement to ground practice in collective knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and maintaining respectful and purposeful relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including computer competency
