  • Casual Position
  • Classification: SCHADS Level 3 with an hourly rate of $46.74 – $50.11, includes Casual Loading + Superannuation

About your new role

Peer Support Workers draw on their lived or living experience(s) of suicide and/or experiences of distress, to instil confidence and hope in others. Peer Support workers provide practical, emotional, social, and service access support that explores and responds to a person’s needs through a process of mutual listening, learning, doing, being, belonging and healing.

What you will bring to the role

  • Personal lived/living experience of mental health challenges, distress, injustice and journey of wellbeing/healing and ability to apply learnings as your primary way of working
  • Willingness to intentionally and purposefully share your lived experience to support the recovery and growth of service visitors and staff
  • Understanding of Lived Experience (Peer) principles and the Consumer/Carer movements to ground practice in collective knowledge
  • A strong understanding of supporting people experiencing emotional distress; and an ability to articulate and promote the value of and strengths gained from lived experiences of recovery
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful professional relationships that have clear boundaries with service visitors, staff and partner organisations
  • Personal lived/living experience of recovery as a family, friend or carer. Your recovery experience may be related to mental health, suicidal crisis, drugs and alcohol use or trauma
  • Willingness to identify or be identified by others as a professional with lived experience of recovery
  • Willingness to share and draw on lived experience purposefully in the role to instil confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery
