Description of tasks

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the SSDF Program Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Refugee Peer Advisor will follow the following.

Objective 

This Term of Reference aims to define the responsibilities and requirements for recruiting a qualified individual to fill the Refugee Peer Advisor position. The overarching objective of this role is to support the implementation of the peer-to-peer advisory project in Iraq. This role includes training, learning content development, one-on-one advising, group advising, leading counselling sessions and discussions, and other relevant capacities.  

Main responsibilities

  • Contribute to developing resources and presentations about P2P networks, education, and employment-linked and durable solutions in the country and globally.
  • Coordinate with relevant coordination platforms for youth and refugees in the country and outside.
  • Conduct outreach to relevant refugee communities and refugee-led organizations to inform them of the P2P project and opportunities to learn about the P2P network, education, and employment-linked and durable solutions in the country and globally.
  • Provide training sessions developed by the UNHCR’s P2P network to the relevant stakeholders, including DAFI club members.
  • Contribute to creating training resources based on lessons learned during project implementation to enhance future training sessions.
  • Provide in-person and/or virtual counselling sessions on specific topics that allow refugee participants to better understand, navigate, and access education and labour-linked immigration pathways available globally.
  • Follow up and track the attendance of the targeted refugees during the info sessions.
  • Use data and innovative tools to facilitate refugee access through digital and other communication tools, making information on complementary pathways more widely available for refugees.
  • Prepare Monthly reports that include details of all info sessions and individual sessions, contributing to the assessment of the P2P project and its impact.

 

Furthermore, the Peer Advisor is encouraged to promote voluntary action through engagement with communities during their work, such as engaging with the Tertiary Refugee Students network, DAFI Student Clubs or other relevant student groups. As such, the Peer Advisor should dedicate some of his/her working time to the following suggested activities.

  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country
  • Provide mid and end-of-assignment self-reports on their actions, results and opportunities
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Promote and advise local groups on using online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the Online Volunteering service whenever possible
