The Peer Worker plays a key role in the Mental Health Integrated Complex Care (MHICC) Program. Drawing on lived experience, you will support consumers in their mental health recovery journey within the program.
You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide individualised, recovery-focused care while also mentoring other peer workers across our mental health programs.

Responsibilities
- Connect with Consumers: Engage with consumers by sharing mental health lived experiences to promote hope, model recovery, de-stigmatise mental health and substance use issues, and foster help-seeking behaviours.
- Caseload Management and Direct Support: Maintain a caseload and provide individualied peer support to consumers in the MHICC program, including participating in care reviews, planning, risk assessment, and safety planning.
- Collaborative Care Planning: Work with consumers, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement recovery-oriented care plans that use a strengths-based approach.
- Mentoring and Supervision: Facilitate co-reflection sessions and provide one-on-one peer supervision to other mental health peer workers across the organisation’s mental health programs.
- Record Keeping and Documentation: Develop and maintain accurate and timely records of consumer health status and progress using the organisation’s IT systems, ensuring comprehensive documentation.
About you
- Professional qualification in lived experience/peer work, welfare, mental health, or equivalent.
- Reflective and emotionally intelligent team player.
- Aligned with Better Health’s values and adaptable to change.
- Consumer-focused with a responsive working style.
- Personal lived experience and understanding of mental health illness.
- 3+ years of experience in hospital and/or community mental health.
- Experience mentoring and supporting peer workers.
- Ability to address social determinants of health for mental health consumers.
