About the Opportunity

We are committed to support the lives of young people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. In this role, you will provide emotional and social support to young people accessing Frontyard Youth Services and staying in Circuit Breaker refuge, providing peer support across a variety of life domains.
About you
To be considered for this impactful role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve efficiently, engage meaningfully, and work creatively with young people.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to connect warmly and effectively with young people.
Duties of this role may include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide emotional and informative support to young people navigating homelessness services and other life domains.
- Facilitate group recreational and therapeutic programs to build community and social engagement.
- Assist young people in developing life skills such as cooking, budgeting, and share-housing.
- Encourage and support young people to engage with internal and external services, including case managers and external support organisations.
- Tailor one-on-one peer support to meet the individual needs of each young person, which may include informal discussions, self-advocacy support, goal setting, and accompanying young people to appointments or activities offsite.
- Connect young people with external groups, programs, and services that support their needs related to identity and culture.
- Collaborate with all Frontyard teams to address the concerns and needs of young people.
- Answer questions and receive feedback, concerns, or complaints related to service provision.
- Support young people who have little social support or who would benefit from regular informal support.
- Provide support for non-complex mental health concerns (complex mental health concerns referred to Mental Health Peer Workers).

Essential
- Lived experience of homelessness, having accessed Frontyard or another housing access point.
- Willingness to undergo professional development and training to support your role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and boundaries with clients.
- Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a National Police check, International Police check (if required), a current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee), and the right to work in Australia.
Desirable
- A comprehensive understanding of current government reform and policy and demonstrated ability to participate effectively in sector reform and implement change.
- Sound, current knowledge of the Mental Health Act, relevant legislation, and current strategic directions of public mental health and primary health care services.
