GrowNYC is a 53-year-old environmental nonprofit organization helping more than 3 million New Yorkers by providing essential services and taking action to make NYC a livable city, one where every person can enjoy a healthier, more sustainable life. GrowNYC Programs include:
- Our network of Greenmarkets and Farmstand sites, with the work of GrowNYC Wholesale ensure that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
- We blanket the five boroughs with resources like food scrap and clothing collections to make waste reduction, recycling, and composting easy for all.
- We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants and more.
- We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

PEOPLE OPERATIONS COORDINATOR (Full-Time):
Position Summary
The People Operations Coordinator will provide administrative, clerical, and employee engagement services in support of GrowNYC’s HR operation. In this role, individuals will develop and strengthen relationships amongst colleagues and programs. The People Operations Coordinator will have a unique opportunity to receive and provide feedback throughout the organization with the goal of deepening our communication channels. The People Operations Coordinator will also learn about a variety of HR areas through an assortment of relevant projects.
Requirements
People Operations Coordinator Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Administrative Duties
- Provide administrative support to the HR team
- Work collaboratively with all incumbents to ensure that the off-boarding process is completed
- Assist with maintaining welcoming office environment with tasks such as printing nameplates, helping with social gatherings, and promoting collective upkeep
- Create flyers and informational posters/signs for a variety of purposes
Employee Engagement
- Schedule and conduct bi-monthly “HR Town Hall” meetings and prepare presentations on HR initiatives
- Assist with development of wellness programs and other initiatives
- Participate in other programs’ weekly/by-weekly meetings to engage other colleagues and inform them about any HR news or highlights
- Plan, organize, facilitate and attend staff events and serve on various task forces
- Gather employee feedback and escalate sensitive issues appropriately
Learning and Development
- Assist with the LMS platform including but not limited to setup, upkeep, gathering feedback, etc.
- Create training content on relevant HR policies and topics as needed
Recruiting
- Assist with screening resumes, phone screenings, sitting in and scheduling interviews and reference checks as needed
- Support Talent Acquisition Lead with posting, editing and updating job descriptions and job posts
- Attend Job Fairs and Career Sites and outreach initiatives with Talent Acquisition Lead
Research
- Create/Conduct/update surveys on Paylocity as needed
- Upon request, review research and case studies to provide recommendations on best practices, engagement strategies, industry standards benchmarking, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role
- Must maintain confidentiality with HR matters
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be well organized and comfortable juggling multiple tasks at once without missing deadlines
- Motivated self-starter who can work independently, identify problems, and create systems to solve them
- Detail-oriented and Creative/Innovative
- Highly developed Interpersonal Skills is a must
- Ability to collect and interpret data
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (especially Excel), Google Suite, Adobe, and Canva preferred, but not required
Ideal Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Paylocity or similar platforms
- Knowledge of TalentLMS or similar platforms
- Interest in Food Justice and equitable policies
Physical Requirements
Ability to be seated for long periods of time and travel within the five boroughs as needed
Schedule
Monday to Friday, 35-40 hours per week, typically a 9AM – 5PM work schedule
Compensation
This position is non-exempt, salaried, and pays $52,000 to $55,000/year commensurate on experience. This position includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). This position is not union eligible.
Location
This position requires 2-3 days presence in our Manhattan office and 1-2 per month attendance to a variety of locations through NYC including job fairs, company presentations and/or company events.
