Reports to the SPD and Materials Management Director and supervises Perioperative Services Materials Management for UC San Diego Health’s Perioperative and Procedural services area. Supervises OR materials assistants and OR case pickers for the La Jolla campus. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. Identifies ways to improve efficiency and utilization of materials management. Directly supervises staff performing functions such as forecasting supply needs, working with vendors, and developing inventory records management. Supervises and coordinates materials management operations, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and external regulations.
Ensures work meets standards of accuracy, cleanliness, and organization standards. Recommends changes or new processes and procedures to improve efficiencies or reduce costs. Monitors and tracks supply usage and ensures appropriate documentation is organized and maintained. Assists with administration and management of resources, maintains expenses within budget. Evaluates supply system needs and makes recommendations as needed to improve supply tracking performance. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams related to materials management operations. Communicates regularly with management on operational or human resources issues. Acts as advisor to management on initiatives, such as workflow efficiencies and clinical information systems.
Interviews, orients, and mentors’ new employees. Tracks attendance and utilization. Evaluates performance and defines development goals in alignment with department goals. Encourages employees to meet professional goals / support their growth in materials management. Identifies training and educational activities. Mentors staff in meeting professional goals and developing growth areas. Assists management in coordinating staff development, training, and competency assessment. Provides input for short- and long-range Materials Management goals. Assists management in implementing strategic plans; collects data, measures success, and evaluates performance. Monitors and reports on supply levels for units to ensure cost efficiency; assists management with cost analysis. Other duties as assigned.
This position will be responsible for oversight for the Materials Assistants at JMC and KOP ORs and the case pickers for all the ORs (HC, JMC, KOP). There are 17 employees reporting up to this position.

- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience; including proven success in storeroom and inventory practices, procedures used in the receipt, storage, and distribution of merchandise.
- Minimum one (1) year recent supervisory or management experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 – $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 – $72.56
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
