Overview

National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan) invites international applications from researchers who can conduct research in materials science. NIMS employs outstanding scientists from various countries who have abundant knowledge and strong research skills in materials science. We welcome applications from female researchers, non-Japanese researchers and researchers who have careers in private companies.

 

The research field to be recruited:

Several positions are available in the fields that are not particularly specified, i.e., any fields of materials research, including materials engineering, solid state physics, materials chemistry, materials data science, etc.

  • Materials Science
  • Materials Science (for women)

One position is available in each of the nine fields specified below.

  • Materials & Characterization Techniques for Electrochemical Devices
  • Magnetic Refrigeration System
  • Development of Circular Materials
  • Metal Additive Manufacturing
  • Semiconductor Devices for Next Generation
  • Neuromorphic Devices
  • Advanced Photoemission Spectroscopy
  • Synchrotron Radiation Imaging
  • Computational Materials Design with Simulations and Data-driven Science

Start-up funds up to 10 million yen depending on the research plan at the time of arrival is available.

 

Deadline for public applications

Application documents and letters of recommendation must reach us no later than May 15, 2024 JST.

 

Employment Data

Salaries (estimate in FY2019) just for reference:

  • Immediately after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 6.27 million Yen (estimate)
  • Five years after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 6.7 million Yen (estimate)
  • Ten years after receiving a Ph.D. degree: 8.07 million Yen (estimate)

Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Possess a Ph.D. degree or be expected to receive a Ph.D. degree by the start of employment.
  2. Be fluent in English for communication in writing and speaking.
  3. Other requirements depending on the field for application (see NIMS website).
