Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician III is a IDS pharmacy position which interacts with patients, research coordinators, research managers, sponsors, and health care providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including preparing intravenous admixtures, process and fill prescriptions, maintain the electronic medical record, maintain accurate drug accountability, deliver medications to nursing areas and patients, assists in maintaining pharmacy stock and ensures no expired medications are in the IDS pharmacy by following the inventory control process.

Responsibilities

  • IV admixture
  • Prepares, packages and labels medication in an accurate and efficient manner
  • Charging and billing functions
  • Operates CII safe and follows all controlled substance procedures
  • Filling and documentation of Pyxis
  • Monitors stock for expiration dates, removes outdated medications, and completes documentation.Conducts physical counts of IP and resolves any discrepancies
  • Manages inventory for IP, including independently ordering IP, within scope of authority, receiving, organizing, and monitoring the use of IP, communicating with sponsors and following IDS destruction policy when applicable
  • Delivery of patient specific medications to CTU, infusion, or other areas of the clinic
  • Performs internal audits of IP dispensing records and helps resolve discrepancies
  • Assists in identifying problems and suggest improvements
  • Assists in implementation of quality initiatives and improvements
  • Provides education to other staff for protocol-specific processes
  • Maintains separate supplies of returned IP from patients for trials that have this requirement
  • Assists and participates in team and departmental planning with other pharmacy staff
  • Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an approved pharmacy technician training program

  • Current Washington state pharmacy technician license
  • 2 years pharmacy technician experience
  • Accurate and aseptic IV admixture
  • Able to use a mouse, navigate computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office products) and enter data into computer systems in accurately and efficiently
  • Familiar with the sponsor-given names, generic names of drugs along with their basic indication

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Participate in professional pharmacy organizations
  • Promote an image of service and goodwill to the patients, public, and hospital staff
  • Perform other related tasks as required
  • Knowledge of computers, and pharmacy technology and automation systems
  • Knowledge of the health care environment and electronic medical records
  • Data Analytics and/or Excel

The hourly pay range for this position is from $33.40 to $50.09 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
