PhD Position in Geogenomic Archaeology of cave communities

(part-time, 65%)

The position will start possibly from March 2024 and will be primarily supervised by Prof. Cosimo Posth. The project is nested within the Leibniz Science Campus “Geogenomic Archaeology Campus Tübingen” (GACT). GACT brings together experts from the fields of archaeology, genetics, geosciences, ecology, and microbiology to examine the evolutionary relationship between humans and ecosystem biodiversity through the multidisciplinary analysis of sedimentary cave archives containing ancient DNA.

Your tasks

  • Planning and implementation of palaeogenetic research projects in connection with the research programme of GACT
  • Working on interdisciplinary projects focusing on the changes in cave communities and demography through time
  • Developing new panels for targeted enrichemnt of cave spieces
  • Supporting the generation of new genomic data from sediment samples
  • Bioinformatic analysis and writing of scientific publications
  • Participation in internal and international meetings, conferences and workshops

Your profile

  • Diploma or Master’s degree in archaeological sciences, genetics, biology, bioinformatics or a related field
  • knowledge in molecular biology and a genuine interest in the human past
  • previous experience in the analysis of next generation sequencing data is recommended.
  • good communication skills, in order to work in a highly collaborative and international environment
  • very good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of German is appreciated, but is not a requirement
