The Role

Reporting to the Partnerships and Investments Directors, this role develops and grows the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust’s (BCT) philanthropy program. The program connects donors with BCT’s efforts to protect privately owned land and achieve global nature goals.

As the primary philanthropy specialist, this role is part of a team leveraging private finance for land conservation, utilising outsourced support, and collaborating with the committee and board members as needed.

Key responsibilities also include:

  • Executing the BCT’s philanthropy strategy to secure major gifts and gifts in wills for private land conservation in NSW
  • Leading fundraising strategies and campaigns for philanthropic partnerships
  • Creating donor materials, impact reports, and compelling cases for support
  • Building and engaging networks of potential donors aligned with BCT’s mission
  • Managing reporting and governance, supporting the Public Fund Management Committee, and reporting to the BCT Board

Skills and Experience Required

You are a hands-on philanthropy specialist, with proven experience in cultivating successful partnerships resulting in major gifts and support of foundations. Ideally, you will have experience in the environment, climate, or related sectors.

You have excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills with an ability to build lasting relationships.

You have a deep understanding of best practices across the philanthropic and fundraising landscape, and a track record of growing income through stewarding key relationships combined with demonstrated leadership skills.

Your experience may also include:

  • Success identifying and cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals trusts and foundations and soliciting major philanthropic donations.
  • Creation of strategies that have driven growth
  • People and budgetary management
  • Development and delivery of high quality and donor-centric proposals

About the Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) of NSW

The Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) of NSW is a focused agency with a clear mission to support over 2,000 private land conservation agreements, helping landholders protect biodiversity and fund conservation strategies. It also plays a key role in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS).

The BCT offers flexible work arrangements, learning opportunities, and NSW Government benefits. It operates within the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, which aims to create thriving environments, communities, and economies for New South Wales.

All new employees with an existing defined interest in the BOS will be required to disclose their personal (or a close family member’s) participation in the scheme to ensure potential conflicts of interest are managed appropriately.
