The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development network, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA leads and supports UNDP in building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances essential to achieving its mission. Creating strong political and financial backing for UNDP by providing partners and supporters with a clear understanding of what UNDP does and how our mission, capabilities and flagship services relate to them. The Bureau leads UNDP’s work on innovative and diversified partnerships and ways of financing the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also responsible for global campaigns on critical development issues, which aim to inform government policies and build partnerships around high-impact solutions. BERA coordinates and sets corporate standards across the functions of partnerships, marketing and communications within UNDP and leads on external communications.
The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy is positioned around three service lines; Public Partnership; Advocacy, Marketing and Communications; and Private and Finance Partners, all working in close collaboration and coordination under the guidance of the Directorate and with the support of the Management Support Unit and Strategic Analysis and Engagement team.
BERA has a robust network of Representation Offices (Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington D.C.) and Regional Teams in five hubs (Africa, Arab States, Asia Pacific, Europe and CIS, and Latin American and the Caribbean) co-led with Regional Bureaux, all of which play a critical role in audience centric communications and management and strengthening of relationships with Public and Private Partners to help build a strong brand for UNDP within the local ecosystem.
The Photo-Video Editor is part of the Digital Communications Studio and will be supervised by the Digital Production Lead. He/she will build UNDP’s capacity for visual communications through professional and creative use of photography and videography.
- Responsible for the creation of high-quality videos and photos for UNDP’s communications, marketing and advocacy campaign;
- Collaborate with digital editors and producers to create compelling visual and mixed-format multimedia stories and products to achieve communication goals;
- Produce high-quality visual content (videos, photos, infographics etc) to showcase UNDP’s programmatic work and as content for flagship campaigns and events;
- Produce high-quality content for UNDP’s corporate partnership with Samsung to provide photos, videos, and multimedia visual stories; content for social media and the ‘Samsung Global Goals’ app to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Generation17, including coverage during high-level events and engagements. Production support includes creative direction, photography, filming, editing, and publishing.
- Provide advisory support and guidance to Country Offices, Regional Bureaux and other UNDP offices on photography and video production including standards, formats and storytelling;
- Provide photo and video guidance to and collaborate with outsourced production houses, agencies, experts and vendors to create top-quality digital media assets for internal clients;
- Build UNDP’s capacity for visual communications by providing quality control assurance of photo assets in UNDP’s digital asset management system (DAM) and promoting the production and use of photos which meet photojournalistic and professional standards;
- Identify professional photographers and videographers for assignments in various regions and countries;
- Research and edit photos and videos for use on websites, social media and other digital platforms and for publications;
- Take photographs and record video content at high‐level events and of UNDP executive leadership and take studio photographs for marketing purposes.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Institutional Arrangement
The incumbent will be working under the direct supervision of the Digital Production Lead, Digital Communications Studio and overall guidance of the Senior Management of the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group in BERA.

Cross-Functional & Technical competencies

- Advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in photography, film, video production, broadcast journalism or another related field is required, or
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in above areas in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of Master´s degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years (with Master’s Degree) or seven (7) years (with Bachelor´s Degree) of relevant work experience in all aspects of video/photo production including filming, scripting, storytelling, editing, and dissemination;
- Proven ability to conceptualize and create photography and video products which follow editorial direction;
- Ability to produce, optimize and edit photographs and videos at professional level;
- Ability to maintain a high-quality digital asset management (DAM) system;
Videography
- Ability to conceptualize and create video content which follows editorial direction
- Ability to produce, optimize and edit video content at a professional level
- High proficiency with Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro
- Working knowledge of After Effects and/or Motion
- Possess a working, current knowledge of the field of videography, especially broadcast and social media
Photography
- Ability to conceptualize and create photography which follows editorial direction
- Ability to produce, optimize and edit photographs at professional level
- High proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
- Possess a working, current knowledge of the field of photography especially photojournalism
Asset management
- Ability to administer a digital asset management (DAM) system
- Ability to maintain quality control of photo assets in a DAM
Multimedia
- Ability to conceptualize and produce multimedia stories for targeted audiences such as media and general public

- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of French and Spanish is desired.
