The Department of Radiology at The Ohio State University is seeking a Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I). Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Department Chair and building upon a robust DE&I infrastructure in the Department, this Vice Chair will provide vision and leadership in promoting and advancing a departmental culture that fully values, supports, and understands diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and its importance in providing the best possible patient care. This leader will report to the Chair of the Department of Radiology and will work closely with the Chair and Radiology Department leadership teams, the College of Medicine (COM) Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, the COM Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs, and other institutional leaders. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate cultural awareness, build trust and credibility, and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve operational goals.

Department/Division Overview

The Department of Radiology is rapidly growing, with expanded services at off-site imaging centers, renovations to our existing clinical spaces, and new spaces through the medical center strategic expansion project ($3+ Billion)

Main campus: NEW Construction of a state-of-the-art biomedical research tower, hospital inpatient tower, ambulatory center and Health Sciences building that will house the College of Medicine

Around the city: NEW Construction of 4 newly designed ambulatory care centers (2 of which are now open), in addition to, 16 established ambulatory care centers up and running today

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership, including planned programmatic goals, for DE&I initiatives across the department’s clinical, research, and teaching missions, aligning with departmental goals and the COM Strategic Plan.
  • Work closely with faculty and staff search committees, residency and fellowship program leadership, and Department/Division leadership to provide effective strategies to address and mitigate bias in screening and selection processes, and to ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in our work and learning environment.
  • Drive the development and implementation of new DE&I programs and activities that anticipate and meet Departmental needs. This includes keeping abreast of best practices and current trends and bringing that knowledge to inform program and policy development work.
  • Collaborate with the COM, University, and other stakeholders, to ensure holistic, comprehensive programming, events, and resources for everyone in the Department.
  • Support faculty and staff in concerns regarding discrimination and ensuring appropriate engagement with Human Resources and the OSU Office of Institutional Equity.
  • Develop and monitor metrics applicable to the Department’s DE&I goals. This includes regularly assessing, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the productivity and success of programs, policies, and services. This individual will present periodic progress reports to Departmental and institutional leadership.
  • Serve as a results-oriented catalyst for change throughout the Department, inspiring colleagues to achieve new levels of expertise, confidence, and productivity.
  • Other special projects to be determined in consultation with the Chair and other Departmental and institutional leadership.

Requirements

  • Candidates should hold an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. (or equivalent to these degrees), and should be eligible for a faculty position within the Department of Radiology (OSU College of Medicine).
  • Appointment rank and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in executing DE&I initiatives in radiology.
  • Ideal candidate will have a collaborative, team-based leadership style, and the ability to build relationships and lead through influence.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) 
– Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. ​
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.​
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.​
