Planning Paralegal/Admin Assistant
Gatwick, East Sussex – Full TimeA leading law firm is seeking a highly organised and proactive Planning Legal Assistant to join its dynamic Planning team based in Gatwick. This is a rare opportunity to support one of the largest teams of chartered planning consultants within a law firm in England, working across planning law, environmental law, compulsory purchase, infrastructure and highways.Role Overview:The successful candidate will provide administrative and technical/legal support to solicitors and planning consultants, contributing to a wide range of matters from planning applications to infrastructure projects. The role offers a unique blend of administrative duties and fee-earning legal work, with scope to grow professionally within a high-performing Real Estate group.Key Responsibilities:Administrative Support:

  • Diary management, meeting coordination and client liaison
  • Document handling: printing, scanning, photocopying, formatting, binding
  • Drafting basic correspondence and preparing engrossments
  • File opening/closing, conflict checks and client welcome packs
  • Monthly billing coordination, fee breakdowns and financial tracking
  • Managing group inbox and supporting internal club administration
  • Maintaining third-party registers and processing expenses

Legal & Technical Tasks:

  • Preparing court bundles and updating client spreadsheets
  • Drafting basic legal documents and uploading to portals
  • Conducting planning research and submitting applications via Planning Portal
  • Supporting business development: pitch documents, presentations, articles
  • Submitting online representations and collating appeal documentation
  • Time recording and assisting with precedent setup and risk protocols

Your Profile:

  • Prior experience in legal or planning environments, or strong academic background
  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, iManage, digital dictation)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Confident telephone manner and client-facing professionalism
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
  • Flexible team player with a proactive mindset
