Planning Officer (Enforcement)Directorate: ResourcesDepartment: Planning and RegenerationSalary: Grade F – £32,076 to £35,745 per year + £5000 welcome payment*(pay award pending)Hours: 37 hours per weekLocation: Long Eaton Town Hall, Derby Road, Long Eaton, Derbyshire, NG10 1HUHybrid/home working availableExciting Opportunity: Planning Officer (Enforcement)Centrally located between Nottingham and Derby with good transport links, Erewash is a diverse borough encompassing the towns of Long Eaton and Ilkeston surrounded by the rural Green Belt.We are seeking a qualified Planner to take a lead role in our Planning Enforcement service. This is an excellent opportunity to join our proactive, award-winning, and customer-focused Development Management team.The role will be responsible for a wide caseload of planning enforcement cases, providing professional advice and support to the Council’s Planning Enforcement Assistant and our customers, and will act as case officer for the processing of planning (and related) applications and appeals instigated through enforcement investigations.Key Responsibilities
- Investigating alleged breaches of planning control – including the carrying out of surveillance activity and site inspections reviewing planning histories and the legislative background to investigate the validity of planning complaints.
- Collating and assessing evidence – from a variety of sources, including from site inspections and taking appropriate action based on findings.
- Formal enforcement action – where negotiation is unable to secure a satisfactory outcome, consider the expediency of taking enforcement action and prepare reports recommending formal enforcement action. Evidence may then be required to be given at appeals or in court.
- Providing advice and guidance – to the Planning Enforcement Assistant, customers, agencies and others on planning regulations and on matters concerning planning judgements relating to enforcement cases.
About YouTo excel in this role, you will need:
- Experience – of dealing with planning applications and appeals and ideally some experience of planning enforcement work.
- Qualifications – hold a Diploma or Degree in Town Planning or equivalent and be a member, or eligible for membership, of the RTPI.
- Skills – an aptitude for problem solving, excellent organisation and negotiation skills, demonstrate tact and diplomacy dealing with customers and an aptitude for maintaining and reviewing detailed records.
- To be a team player – with the ability to show initiative and have an appreciation of good customer service, be assertive at times, have sound communication skills and the ability to explain clearly the details of planning legislation to a varied customer base.
- Technical ability – the ability to interpret, understand and explain plans and technical drawings is essential.
