Assist Journeyperson Plumber in all aspects of plumbing trade, maintaining shop machinery, tools, equipment, and reading/interpreting blue prints. Gain knowledge and experience during the apprentice training period. Upon successful completion of apprenticeship, employee will be classified as a Journeyperson.

This is a union position within the Building Trades Council bargaining unit (BTC). The rate of pay for a Step 1 Plumber Apprentice is $19.65/hr.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, customer relations skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must belong to the local Plumbers and Steamfitters Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites.
  • Ability to maintain safe work environment.
  • Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height and accumulated dirt.
  • Availability to work overtime as duties require, including weekends.
  • Possibility of shift work.
  • Able to ascend and descend heights and have agility and freedom of movement.
  • Climb stairs and ladders.
  • Able to move easily in confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in the plumbing/control field and formal training beyond high school strongly desired.
