Position description

The Sentry seeks an experienced professional to help lead and coordinate its policy engagement in Washington, DC with the Executive Branch (NSC, State, and Treasury), on Capitol Hill, and with civil society.

Responsibilities 

-In collaboration with the Co-Founder and Director of Illicit Finance Policy, develop an organizational strategy for policy engagement in Washington, DC.

-Develop professional contacts and engage with policymakers and government authorities, particularly at the NSC, State Department, Treasury Department, and on Capitol Hill.

-Track ongoing developments in the US and serve as a subject matter expert on the countries and issues prioritized by the Sentry.  As part of that, advocate for the strategic use of targeted network sanctions, AML measures, business advisories and other relevant policy tools in support of broader peace, human rights and good governance objectives.

-Collaborate with other civil society organizations, particularly with respect to advocacy efforts in Washington, DC.

-Write op-eds and policy briefs, as well as contributing to external publications from Illicit Finance Policy team members.

-Working with colleagues in Illicit Finance Policy and Investigations, develop country-focused and context-specific policy recommendations.

-Develop opportunities to share The Sentry’s findings and policy positions by participating in events, panels, and other public forums.

-Function as a regular public-facing representative of The Sentry, including with television, radio, online, and print media.

Qualifications 

-Minimum 6-10 years of experience, including at least 3-5 years of experience related to policy concerning sanctions, AML, and/or other relevant policy tools.

-BA degree required, MA or other relevant graduate degree preferred.

-Expert knowledge of targeted network sanctions, anti-money laundering mechanisms, and other tools of financial pressure.

-Working knowledge regarding The Sentry’s main countries of focus, including Sudan among others.

-Experience engaging leadership and staff in government and civil society organizations.

-Demonstrated commitment to peace, human rights, and anti-corruption strategies.

-Excellent writing, communication, and policy analysis skills, including a track record of publications and media interviews.

-Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Compensation

Salary: $100,000-120,000 per year, plus benefits
