Policy Analyst, Frontier Group 

Boston, MA

Frontier Group, a part of the Public Interest Network, seeks a policy analyst to produce timely research and analysis on environmental and consumer protection issues. Our reports, web content and op-eds inform decision-makers and the public and build momentum for solutions to pressing problems affecting our country and our world. We are looking for a candidate to join our team who is an excellent critical thinker and a top-notch writer, is comfortable working with data, and shares our values and vision for positive social change. 

Key responsibilities

Frontier Group policy analysts distill complex data into clear, powerful conclusions and communicate those findings to decision-makers and the public in ways that make an impact. This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Reviewing and drawing conclusions from recent research in environmental science, public health, economics, and other fields.
  • Performing quantitative analysis of existing datasets.
  • Writing clear, concise, message-driven reports and web content.
  • Producing articles, interactive graphics, op-eds, social media posts, fact sheets and other communications to disseminate our research and ideas.
  • Evaluating policy alternatives and working with advocates on the ground to develop policy principles and proposals.
  • Taking part in organization-building activities including recruitment, fundraising and staff training.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • at least two years of full-time experience in public interest advocacy, journalism, or policy analysis and development, OR
  • an advanced degree in a relevant field plus some experience in public interest advocacy, journalism, or policy analysis and development.

The ideal candidate has: 

  • Proven ability to draw conclusions from complex data sources and communicate the results in ways that resonate with decision-makers and the public.
  • Experience designing and executing timely research and/or writing projects, producing work of high quality on deadline.
  • Experience with basic data analysis tools, geospatial analysis and/or core statistical concepts is preferred.

We evaluate candidates based on:

  • writing ability,
  • experience in related political or public interest work,
  • academic record,
  • reasoning and research skills,
  • ability to pick up new topics quickly,
  • ability to function well under deadlines, and
  • demonstrated leadership and the ability to work well as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits

Target annual compensation for this position is commensurate with the relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees that a candidate has. Frontier Group offers a competitive benefits package.
