Position description

The Policy and Advocacy Officer will join the COFACE secretariat in Brussels, Belgium, from March 2024 working closely with COFACE Director and team members. They will be in charge of monitoring policy developments in the fields of disability rights and care policy, providing a strong voice for families and children in key EU legislative and non-legislative processes. The officer will liaise with the EU institutions and members of COFACE in these areas. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in an international, inspiring and friendly workplace.

Main responsibilities

  • Build COFACE policy expertise in the areas disability rights and care policy;
  • Build advocacy activities around key European frameworks like the European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disability, the European Care Strategy, and the EU Gender Equality Strategy;
  • Draft policy statements and positions based on COFACE members’ input;
  • Coordinate working groups with COFACE members on different topics such as independent living, family carers, closing the gender care gap, and professional care services;
  • Consolidate relations with EU/international institutions and agencies, relevant industries, and the research field;
  • Participate in joint alliances at EU level and represent COFACE in EU-level networks;
  • Report to funders on disability rights and care activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, human rights, child rights, disability rights, EU affairs, or any related fields and at least 3 years’ relevant work experience;
  • Experience and knowledge of EU affairs, especially in policies and legislation which cover disability rights and care;
  • Strong interest in the work of civil society in the field of family policy;
  • Good understanding of the functioning of membership-based civil society organisations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French. Any additional languages are a plus.
  • Proactivity and problem-solving attitude, and ability to work autonomously in a small team;
  • Excellent writing skills, ability to make complex messages accessible to COFACE members and to a wider audience;
  • Ability to plan and prioritise.
