About The Australasian Menopause Society

The Australasian Menopause Society (AMS) is the peak body for menopause and women’s midlife health in Australia and New Zealand. The AMS is a member-based, not-for-profit charity of nearly 1000 health professionals, who each have a special interest in women’s midlife health, menopause and the promotion of healthy ageing. The aim of AMS is the advancement of knowledge about menopause, and our mission is to improve the quality of life of women during and after menopause. The AMS is an evidence-based and trusted source of information on menopause and midlife women’s health for health professionals and consumers. AMS provides face to face and virtual education to health professionals, in the workplace and in the community.

This is a great opportunity for a high calibre Policy and Communications Officer who is keen to be a part of a small but busy team. It would suit someone who is keen to understand all aspects of a values-based, not-for-profit membership organisation, while working on diverse tasks and engaging with a variety of stakeholders. Key Responsibilities of the Policy and Communications Advisor

Policy Development and Advocacy: Develop and implement strategic policies to advance the mission and objectives of the AMS. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and represent the AMS in advocacy efforts to improve menopause care and support for women. Collaborate with stakeholders to influence policy decisions.

Communications Strategy: Develop and execute communication strategies to raise awareness about menopause-related issues. Manage digital platforms, create compelling content, and cultivate relationships with media outlets to secure opportunities for the AMS.

Membership Strategy: Develop strategies to attract new members, identify target audiences, and create marketing campaigns to promote membership benefits. Collaborate with various teams to enhance member retention rates and engagement levels.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocacy groups. Organize events to promote dialogue, provide support to AMS members in advocacy efforts, and stay informed about research and trends in menopause care and women’s health. Conduct research and collaborate with experts to inform policy positions and advocacy efforts.

Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, communications, public health, or a related field. Postgraduate qualifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in policy advocacy, communications, or related roles, preferably in the healthcare, membership organisations or non-profit sector.
  • Strong understanding of women’s health issues, menopause, and related policy and regulatory frameworks in Australasia.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and community organisations.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, website management, and email marketing.
