£77,310 gross starting salary per annum, (consisting of: basic salary £65,615, London Weighting £2,100, car allowance £4,129 and bonus £5,466).

An exciting opportunity has become available for a new team member to join the Political-Military Unit within the Political Section at the U.S. Embassy in London. This will be a fast-paced career opportunity where you will take responsibility for assessing foreign, security and defense policy developments in the UK, providing verbal and written reports in the form of briefings, cables, daily reports and memos to Washington and Embassy officials, including the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) and Political Minister-Counselor.

Translating strategy into action will entail preparing and organizing political representational events, including July 4th receptions, as well as co-hosting representational functions at local venues or the U.S. Embassy and attending defense and security gatherings such as think tank events and conferences, the Farnborough International Airshow and the Defense and Security Equipment International.

Exceptional organization and interpersonal skills are a must in this role, as are oral and written communications. You will be expected to develop and maintain relationships at all levels across the UK political sector, such as key staff at the Cabinet Office, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defense and Parliament.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:
University Degree in or in combination of the following: Politics, International Relations, International Development, International Security, or an equivalent academic qualification.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience as a foreign, security, or defense policy professional in government, parliament, think tank, media, or academic fields.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have thorough working knowledge of the UK political system, and a strong working knowledge of UK current affairs and history.

LANGUAGE:
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
