This role contributes to the development of regional primary healthcare population health analysis and the design of appropriate commissioned activities. The role will source, interpret, and analyse reliable population health-based data, health system performance information and general practice data, to inform population needs assessment, local priority setting and monitoring, and subsequent population health planning. Data will be used to inform the design of appropriate commissioned primary healthcare service responses and improvement initiatives.

About Us

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria’s largest independent, locally governed, and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in our community.

What are Primary Health Networks?

PHNs have been established with two key objectives:

  • Increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of primary health services for community members, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes.
  • Improving coordination of care to ensure people receive the right care in the right place, at the right time.

A typical week may include:

  • Collate, identify, interpret, analyse and prepare population-based and epidemiological data to inform regional population needs assessment, local priority setting, population health planning, service improvement initiatives and program/service evaluation.
  • As required, undertake data collection, collation and analysis for program/service evaluation and research, including the innovative use of GP practice-level data for population health planning and service improvement initiatives.
  • Provide high- level advice on all matters related to population health analysis and reporting of health data, including the impact of government policy change.
  • Prepare written reports, articles and oral presentations as required.
  • Communicate complex population health information persuasively to decision-makers, including NWMPHN staff, the Executive, Clinical Councils and Community Advisory Committees.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public health, population health, epidemiology, health sciences or equivalent.
  • Highly developed technical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data and information relating to health services need, supply and utilisation.
  • Proven experience in coordinating population health and health services planning data analysis, collaborating across teams, and adapting to changing priorities. Prepare written reports, articles and oral presentations as required.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with management and staff within and across teams to achieve organisational outcomes, and an ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the primary health system in Australia, including its interaction with the acute care sector, as well as the challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience in statistical methods for quality improvement and evaluation design.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, R software.
