The Opportunity

CARE Australia (part of CARE International) is an international aid organisation working to defeat global poverty by supporting women to create lasting change in their communities around the world.

In this role, you will support local organisations and CARE country offices across the Pacific in areas of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and humanitarian response. The position involves liaising with local organisations and CARE country offices to provide ongoing monitoring and support to programs, the preparation of reports, budgets and financial acquittals and the facilitating and brokering of support from technical leads.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing partner-led short-term humanitarian response and long-term resilience projects and programs
  • Supporting business development including the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, public appeals, the Emergency Action Alliance, and other funding streams
  • Supporting effective partnership management (in collaboration with CARE as a whole), whilst developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with partners
  • Providing response support in the event of major emergencies
  • Supporting CARE’s Emergency Coordination Team where appropriate
  • Organising project inception workshops in coordination with Country Offices and partners,
  • Grant management and contract administration ensuring timely submission of donor grant reporting and any other requirements to donors
  • Maintaining an overview of project activities and identify any trends or challenges as they arise
  • Managing relevant quality, compliance and risk issues related to grants and activities
  • Facilitating and drafting project implementation plans and coordinating periodic reviews of projects
  • Representing CARE Australia to bilateral and multilateral donors, other NGOs, research institutions, foundations, the media and the public

Ideally you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in the humanitarian sector and/or international or community development with a focus on working with local partners, project operations, MEAL and program quality. Experience in the Pacific will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience working alongside country teams and local civil-society organisations, to support project implementation
  • Demonstrated experience implementing gender, disability and inclusion integration across project implementation
  • Strong communication skills in cross-cultural environments, including the ability to speak and write effectively in English
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work with limited supervision and remotely, and a consultative approach
  • Skills, behaviours and willingness to work collaboratively as part of small, geographically dispersed, but interrelated team
  • Flexibility and willingness to support the work of CARE’s Humanitarian broader portfolio should the need arise
  • An understanding of CARE’s vision, mission and values, and a commitment to uphold the CARE Australia Child Protection Code of Conduct and Preventing Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse policy for the duration of the assignment
