We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on our assays for identifying and characterizing bacteria. An important goal of the project is to transfer the methods from high end equipment in modern labs to labs in low and middle income countries.
Information about the division and the department
The division of Chemical Biology is the home of seven research groups. We combine and develop protein engineering, synthetic chemistry and state-of-the-art biophysical methos (spectroscopy, live-cell imaging and nanotechnology) to address cutting edge questions in biology to meet medical challenges related to human health. Our joint expertise is strategic and spans from molecular biophysics of single molecules to cell and organism biology.
The Westerlund group uses fluorescence microscopy to image single molecules with a strong focus on DNA. The research ranges from basic science of DNA-protein interactions to clinical and diagnostic applications, in particular for infectious diseases and cancer. A recent focus has been to extend the assays we devleop to also work in low income settings. We have a current ongoing collaboration with a university and hospital in Tanzania.
Major responsibilities
Experimental work on DNA and bacteria using fluorescence microscopy. The post doc will design assays, collect data, analyse data and present data in seminars and scientific papers
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master’s levels as well as supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a background in micrcospy, DNA analysis, microfluidics or similar.
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
