About the Role
The project, Legal Responses to Violence Against Women will see you will work as part of a team in partnership with CEVAW researchers, Partner Investigators and Organisations. You will conduct research, including fieldwork, data collection and data management across multiple sites in the Indo-Pacific region, focused on developing tools and methods for assessing the safety and justice outcomes of legal responses to contribute to the development of  survivor-centred legal responses that promote justice and safety for violence effected women in the region.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing as both a member of a team and independently to analyse in-depth qualitative and/or quantitative research, focusing on identifying and analysing legal responses to violence against women which promote safety and justice in diverse context.
  • Conducting legal research (cases/legislation), utilising surveys, case study development, interviews, yarning circles and focus groups.
  • Leading fieldwork, data collection, and data management across multiple sites in the Indo-Pacific region. Domestic and International Travel will be required.
  • Preparing and formulating publications, workshops, presentations, and research reports.

Who We Are Looking For
You will exhibit the ability and willingness to collaborate in teams to deliver successful research project outcomes. You have experience producing conference and seminar papers, and a strong track record of original and independent research evidenced by a publication record of high impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals.

You will also have:

  • A doctoral qualification in law or a cognate social science discipline with knowledge of legal responses to violence against women and/or gender-based violence.
  • Qualitative research experience.
  • Evidence of publication of high-quality research on violence against women, and/or sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and with partner organisations, and a demonstrated ability to work independently in a research environment to meet project deadlines.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn’t have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The Post Doctoral Research Fellow is located in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) and is based at the Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne.

CEVAW is the world’s first centre to tackle the full range of forms of violence against women in Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. The team will work to generate fundamental knowledge and pioneering new, evidence-based, approaches to inform trajectory-altering practice and policy.

CEVAW comprises 14 chief investigators at seven Australian institutions, 15 partner investigators worldwide, 33 partner organisations and over 100 HDR students and postdoctoral fellows.
