Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Science [Mathematics] – Dr. Francesco Paparella

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate in applied mathematics and computational science to work under the supervision of Prof. Francesco Paparella.

The successful candidate must manifest the ability to develop their research projects as part of the Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (MACCESS). Among others, topics that would fit the center’s vision and aims are

• regional ocean/atmosphere/climate modeling
• plankton/biogeochemistry/ecological modeling
• ML/AI techniques for feature identification/dimensionality reduction/parameterization building in ocean/atmosphere data or models
• double diffusion in geophysical flows.

Candidates with interdisciplinary skill sets and/or capable of working on multiple topics are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have an extremely strong background in applied mathematics and scientific computing and must hold a PhD degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or related fields. Previous background in geophysical fluid dynamics (broadly indented) is highly desirable. Applicants must also demonstrate well-honed writing skills, the ability to work productively in interdisciplinary teams, and a level of scientific autonomy commensurate with a post-doctoral position. The ability and willingness to help supervise students (e.g. research interns) is expected.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will be appointed for two years, with a six-month probation period. The position is renewable, pending a more than satisfactory performance. The terms of employment include highly competitive salaries, housing allowance, and other benefits. The Associate will have funds for travel, equipment, publications, and access to world-class research facilities exclusive to NYUAD researchers, including an HPC cluster with ~30,000 computing cores and 34 GPU nodes.
