Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Beam-Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator Physics

The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Beam-Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator Physics on a fixed term contract for 15 months.

The Department of Physics at Oxford has been awarded a grant from UKRI-STFC to work on the AWAKE-II experiment at the CERN laboratory in Geneva. The task is to implement the photon acceleration diagnostic on the beam-driven wakefield accelerator experiment there, whose principals of operation have been developed in the Clarendon Laboratory over the past decade, in association with the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science. The post-Doctoral research assistant will help Prof. Peter Norreys with the implementation of this state-of-the-art diagnostic tool, as well as investigate new methods for controlling the emittance of electron beams in the two-pulse ionisation mechanism, in a follow-on experiment at the University of Michigan in 2024.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be close to obtaining) in this area of specialism.

Applicants should possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes.
