Post-Doctoral Researcher

The St. Andrew and St. Joseph Bays Estuary Program (SASJBEP), located within the Office of Sponsored Research at Florida State University Panama City, is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 2.5-year position! Come be a part of a highly collaborative team that is working to assess living shoreline effectiveness at the local scale in three northwest Florida estuaries!

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for leading the efforts to analyze historic and new monitoring data to quantify living shoreline restoration effectiveness across three estuaries in Northwest Florida with opportunities to engage in additional projects secured by the SASJBEP, as well as provide expertise and input to future research projects, and gain training and experience in grant and contract administration and management. The primary role of the post-doctoral researcher is to provide quantitative expertise to the FIO’s FLRACEP funded project that will consolidate existing data together with newly collected data to determine the effectiveness of living shorelines projects across the Northwest region of Florida.

Responsibilities

The SASJBEP is seeking candidates with interests in a variety of areas of quantitative estuarine ecology. All areas of applied estuarine research experience will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with the Executive Director and Estuary Program Scientist to standardize existing data sets from across the Florida Panhandle region and beyond if applicable and analyze together with newly collected data from field-based research. Post-doctoral researcher will perform advanced analyses as applicable on large, regional datasets and write peer reviewed publications and reports based on project results.
• Work with Estuary Program staff in a collaborative environment with minimal oversight to meet deadlines and lead a research project while independently developing new processes and procedures to ensure project completion and milestones are met. Develop collaborative code to analyze data and manage data according to university and GRIIDC requirements including version control techniques.
  Work with Estuary Program staff and participate in fieldwork seasonally as necessary in less-than-ideal conditions. Prepare and give presentations based on project results as necessary.

Additional duties include:

• Problem-solving research challenges and data analysis individually.
• Contribute discrete and non-discrete components of a larger project under the direction of the Estuary Scientist and Executive Director in collaboration with project partners.
• Analyze, interpret, and document research findings for review both historic and newly acquired.
• Evaluate existing research or modeling techniques and recommend improvements to ensure quality and productivity.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals and reports.
