The Department of Population Health Sciences is developing a robust interdisciplinary population health research team that uses theory and methods from multiple disciplines to broaden our understanding of the pathways that produce health and health disparities at the population level. The department currently consists of faculty with training in epidemiology, biostatistics, health behavior, implementation science, and social sciences.

The Opportunity:

Postdoctoral Scholar: Community-Based Structural Interventions for Health Equity

The University of Central Florida College of Medicine seeks a postdoctoral scholar in the department of Population Health Sciences. The postdoctoral scholar will work directly with Dr. Nolan Kline, Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, on a recently funded Community-Led Health Equity Structural Intervention (CHESI) project. The CHESI study focuses on the consequences of community-police interactions, and the postdoctoral scholar will be involved in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, manuscript writing, and attending virtual and in-person meetings with community stakeholders.

The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal until September 2028, pending funding and good performance reviews. Start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, draft, and publish scholarly manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals
  • Give oral presentations to disseminate research findings to scholarly and community audiences
  • Assist with preparing study instruments and databases
  • Assist with preparing project-related reports
  • Analyze data and develop recommendations based on results 
  • Verify the accuracy and validity of data 
  • Ability to comply with University policies 
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Contribute to grant applications based on the research conducted, as applicable and interested
  • Collaborate on and support analyses and manuscripts being led by other members of the research group
  • Provide mentorship to students/trainees in the research group
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Public Health, medical anthropology, medical sociology, or other related field. ABD candidates will be considered, but degree must be conferred by start date.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in quantitative data analysis using SAS, R, Stata or other statistical software
  • Strong scientific writing skills
  • Awareness of and commitment to community-based research approaches
  • Strong interest in disseminating findings to public audiences
  • Established track record of peer-reviewed publication
  • Familiarity with scholarly literature related to health equity, health disparities, and structural interventions
