The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a position at the level of Postdoctoral Scholar/Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Marmar Vaseghi. The main focus of research is to identify novel pathways and mechanisms in neural control of the heart, neural remodeling, and neuromodulatory therapies for treatment and/or prevention of cardiovascular disease. The candidate will spend the majority of their time performing research and is expected to present their work at laboratory meetings as well as departmental and scientific conferences in addition to publishing their findings.

Requirements: MD or PhD or MD/PhD. Research experience and publication record are a must.

Anticipated duration: ~3 years

Anticipated Salary: $65,480-$70,000 per year + benefits, depending on level of experience

Changes in the autonomic nervous system significantly contribute to sudden cardiac death and progression of heart failure. The project is focused on testing cutting edge neuromodulatory approaches for treatment of arrhythmias and heart failure in-vivo. The project leverages multidisciplinary expertise in cardiology and neuroscience and state of the art approaches including single cell RNA sequencing, viral therapies, and tissue clearing to determine how the nervous system remodels in the setting of cardiovascular disease and which targeted approaches can reverse this remodeling.

The candidate is expected to perform essential experimental techniques including in-vivo surgical survival and non-survival procedures, neural and cardiac electrophysiological recordings, tissue harvest and clearing (with a focus on the heart and peripheral autonomic ganglia), molecular biology assays, single cell sequencing, and high-resolution confocal imaging.

Candidate will be expected to:
• Design, execute and analyze experiments for manuscript preparation
• Participate in multidisciplinary research collaborations
• Contribute to training/supervision of students and technicians in the lab

Candidates with a strong background in neuroscience, physiology, molecular biology, cardiology and/or related disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interested candidate should send a copy of their CV along with a paragraph on your background and training and research experience to Marmar Vaseghi ([email protected]).
