The Baral Forest Economics Lab within the Department of Forest & Rangeland Stewardship at Colorado State University is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to lead research projects focused on wood products trade and carbon program impacts on the forest product industry or the economic efficiency of forest fuel treatment activities.
The post-doc will work in close coordination with, and as part of, the Baral Forest Economics Lab but will also collaborate with a team of researchers within and external to CSU.
The post-doc will be tasked with taking a largely independent role in data collection, manipulation, analysis, development of econometric models, engagement with key partners, and publication of peer-reviewed journal articles and white papers. The incumbent may have the opportunity to collaborate or lead grant-writing to secure future funding and will likely take on teaching undergraduate courses, such as Economics of the Forest Environment.
This position is located in Fort Collins, and the incumbent is expected to work in-person in Fort Collins, though part-time telework may be optional.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Forestry, Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or a closely related field.
- Expertise in forest economics.
- Training in econometric modeling and analysis.
- Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduate students.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publication.
- Programming experience, such as R, for data processing and economic analysis.
- The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US by the employment start date. The department will not sponsor a visa.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of expertise or experience in the forest carbon market in the US.
- Evidence of experience in collaborating, motivating and encouraging staff to perform at a high level.
- Knowledge of US forest management policies.
- Evidence of professional oral communication to diverse audiences.
- Experience with grant writing.
- Experience teaching forest economics courses at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Experience with project management.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as evidenced by professional activities.
