Postdoc Hybrid Computational-Experimental Testing of Floating Wind Support Structures

tendersglobal.net

As our new Post-Doctoral researcher at the Offshore Engineering Group, you will be looking into the development of a computational framework for the deployment and operation of floating wind. The focus of the research is to minimise motions of the (sub)structure and reduce loads during the operational lifetime. Resulting into new insights on the structures, and novel ideas into the control strategies for floating wind.

The researcher will work on fluid-structure interactions and evaluation of loads at local and global scales, as well as investigating controls systems for floating wind. The developed framework is expected to be validated with experiments and used for hybrid computational-experimental testing.

As a Post Doctoral researcher you will be part of the Offshore Engineering (OE) group in the Hydraulic Engineering department, supervised is supervised Prof. Dr. Andrei Metrikine (Head of the OE), Dr. George Lavidas (Marine Renewable Energies Lab ) and Dr. Oriol Colomés (Computational Multiphysics in Offshore Engineering group ).

You will be expected to conduct research (both independently and as part of a team) in floating wind applications. It is anticipated that you will disseminate research findings by writing in scientific international journals, attend international conferences. You will be expected to participate in coordination of research activities, actively contribute to meet project milestones, and administrative tasks related to other researchers and industry partners within the project.

You will contribute to the research and teaching activities of the Offshore Engineering Group by developing/updating material for specified courses, have an active role in supervision of MSc students and PhD candidates, and contribute to proposals within the field.

We foresee that our new colleague will be self-motivated, curiosity-driven, open to communicate and collaborate with others, especially within the Lab.

  • A PhD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or relevant domain.
  • Knowledge of fluid-structure interactions, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), fatigue & extreme event estimation methods with experimental testing campaigns and knowledge in floating wind being a strong asset.
  • Excellent programming skills (Fortran/Python/Matlab, etc) are expected.
