Postdoc position in Metal Hydride Development

Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht

tendersglobal.net

The department of Materials Design, in the Institute of Hydrogen Technology at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, invites applications for a PostDoc position in the development of nanocrystalline light metal hydrides and hydride composites for solid-state hydrogen storage. The position is initially limited to fifteen months (starting as soon as possible).
In principle, the full time position (39 h/week) is also sharable. The place of employment is Geesthacht.

The aim of the project is the synthesis, characterization, and optimization of novel light metal hydrides and their composites for hydrogen storage. The findings of this project serve as the foundation for additional material optimization for both stationary and mobile energy storage applications.

Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position.

Your tasks

The position entails the synthesis of metal hydride composites by high-energy milling, wet chemistry, and solid-gas reactions. The synthesized material will be characterized with respect to microstructure, chemical state, and relevant application properties, i.e., hydrogen absorption and desorption, thermodynamics, etc. The focus of the work will be the development of hydride-polymer composites for pollutant-resistant and high-performance hydrogen storage materials.

Exchanges with the collaborating partners are planned. Furthermore, the applicant will have the chance to visit hydrogen technology related scientific training workshops, complementary skills seminars at Hereon, and is expected to present scientific results at international conferences.

For further information about the project and the partners of the network, please contact Dr. habil. Claudio Pistidda ([email protected]).

Your profile

  • University degree in chemistry, physics or related fields is required, PhD degree in chemistry, physics, or related fields.
  • Experiences in X-ray scattering techniques, kinetics of chemical reactions and powder metallurgy are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge in metal hydrides and/or hydrogen technology would be an additional advantage.
  • Appropriate presentation, communication, and writing skills are expected.

We offer you

  • an exciting and varied job in a research centre with more than 1,000 employees from around 60 nations
  • a well‑connected research campus and best networking opportunities
  • individual opportunities for further training
