In line with Empa’s mission, the Technology and Society Laboratory (TSL) creates and transfers knowledge to support the transformation to a more sustainability society. In particular, TSL analyses novel materials and emerging technology applications with a focus on associated material and energy stocks and flows, and evaluates them with regard to both natural environment and societal constraints.

Your tasks

This position is linked to the activities of the Innosuisse Flagship project WISER (www.wiser-climate.com), which aims to develop a digital ecosystem that can streamline validation and translation of greenhouse gas emission factors for various assessments. Within this project, you would be expected to work, in collaboration with other researchers, on the:

  • Development of a data repository and its related Data Management Plan (DMP) 
  • Definition of ontologies for environmental data and assessment standards 
  • Proposition of novel solutions to define the uncertainty on input data
  • Management of activities for a part of the WISER Flagship project

Your profile

  • PhD in environmental/natural sciences or engineering or data science 
  • Experience with using the life cycle assessment method or other assessment methods in the field of industrial ecology 
  • Good management skills and outgoing personality 
  • Experience in scientific writing and publishing 
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral) 
  • Basic fluency in German and/or French is a plus
