This position will develop small animal models for cardiac diseases to help develop novel therapies for heart diseases. The postdoctoral fellow will perform small animal survival surgeries to produce cardiovascular disease models. He/she is expected to be able to execute the experiment, collect tissue samples at the end of the experiment, perform analysis and report the result. The end experiments will include multiomics analysis, such as bulk RNA and scRNAseq, metabolomics and proteomics analysis.

 

The position will have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple leading groups in the field, present work locally and in national scientific meetings, as well as interaction with pharmaceutical companies.

Job Duties

  • Sets up animal cohort for experiment.
  • Performs pre and post surgical care and daily injections of testing compounds.
  • Conducts tissue sample procurement at the end of the survival experiment. genotyping, basic molecular biology, histology, and immunohistochemistry experiments.
  • Studies vardiovascular survival surgeries, including transaortic constriction, myocardial infarction and ischemia referfusion.
  • Conducts primary cell isolation and culture for cardiovascular cell types and data analysis of scRNAseq and other omics.
  • Summarizes data and report.
  • Plans and executes experiment, analyzes and presents data, writes manuscript and gives oral presentation.
  • Plans animal experiments, performs surgery and pre-post- surgical care, coordinates with various core facility for data collection, procures tissue sample and performs final molecular and histological experiments and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent (1-3 year) of MD or PhD graduate with experience in cardiovascular animal research.
  • Surgical skills are greatly appreciated.
  • Bioinformatics skills are greatly appreciated.
  • Experience with iPSC-cardiomyocytes or organoid is a plus.
