Job Description

The laboratory of Dr. Peter Douglas is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

In our laboratory, we have two major focuses with potential for synergy: (1) metabolic stress and intracellular lipid sensing in the context of cellular and organismal physiology and aging; (2) long-term ramifications of traumatic brain injury and concussion with emphasis on defining molecular and cellular mechanisms in the context of cell-to-cell communication.

We welcome applications from individuals interested in conducting their postdoctoral work in a collegial, interactive environment. Candidates should be self-motivated with strong research interest and analytical skills, ability to work independently, good communication and writing skills, and a collaborative and interdisciplinary mindset. This position requires knowledge in the fields of molecular biology, cell biology, neurosciences, and genetics. Applicants should be proficient in experimental design and troubleshooting as well as preparation of scientific manuscripts and postdoctoral grant applications including writing and figure design.

Model systems used include human cells/stem cells and in vivo models of mouse and/or C. elegans.

This position requires use of techniques such as live cell image and indirect immunofluorescence via confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, plasmid design/cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 genetic editing, and biochemistry including western blots, subcellular fractionations, immunoprecipitations, RNA isolation coupled with RNAseq analysis. Ability to analyze large datasets including transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics is also desired.

Position is funded but applicants are encouraged to apply for external funding.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and/or genetics.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should have an excellent academic track record (including publications in peer-reviewed journals), demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills in English, and have the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
