The Opportunity
The School of Chemical Engineering has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a Cooperative Research Centre – Project in collaboration with Ecopha Biotech, entitled: Innovative Development of Biodegradable Healthcare Packaging Products. In this role you will undertake research in the modification of natural polymers (biodegradable polymer polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs)) produced by Ecopha Biotech via fermentation of canola oil with the aim to prepare healthcare packaging products.
This position will give you the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally through your contributions to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, your participation in conferences and workshops, supervising HDR students, and your active engagement with industry partners.
This role reports to the Prof Cyrille Boyer, A/Prof Jin Zhang, and Prof Chun Wang, with no direct reports.
- Salary, Level A – $106,337 to $113,737 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixed-term contract – 12 months
- Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience
- A PhD in polymer science with some expertise in post-modification of biodegradable polymers.
- Demonstrated track record of publications in polymer science.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Demonstrated previous research experience in polymer synthesis, photochemistry, and synthesis of functional monomer.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
