Offer Description

Description of the workplace
At the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, we study the population’s exposure to various environmental toxins and evaluate how these affect our health. A postdoctoral position is available at the research group applied mass spectrometry in environmental medicine under the leadership of Christian Lindh.
The laboratory has a large collection of mass spectrometers and extensive experience in method development and applications using the instruments. A central theme is the study of various biomarkers and applying the methods in large projects about exposure to toxic chemicals from work or the general environment. We are studying e.g. endocrine disrupting compounds, industrial chemicals, PFAS and how these affect human health in Sweden and but also internationally. Within the research group, we protect a good working environment with high ceilings and consideration for each other. We are committed to an equitable and inclusive workplace and work on the basis that differences enrich our business.

What we offer
Lund University is a public authority, which means that you will have special benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension. We also have a flexitime agreement that creates good conditions for work/life balance. Read more on the University’s website about being a Lund University employee, Work at Lund University

Work duties and areas of responsibility
The research tasks consist of you independently, under the supervision of the project leaders, develop both the instrumental and the sample preparation methods for the determination of biomarkers of environmental chemicals in human urine and blood using primarily LC-MS/MS. Furthermore, the duties consist of compiling and statistically processing the human biomonitoring data in studies of exposed populations and the general population. Some specific major projects will be about human exposure to emerging bisphenols and 6PPD and its metabolites (a common rubber antiozonant). The work requires that you have a good ability to communicate with research people. You will also publish articles in research journals, contribute to conferences and assist in the other work duties that the above-mentioned research project entails. Teaching may occur to some extent.

Qualification requirements
To qualify for the position, the applicant must have a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within a subject relevant for the position (i.e. biology, biomedicine, medicine, chemistry), completed no more than three years before the date of employment decision. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are:

  • The applicant must have university/college education in environmental science, biology, chemistry or corresponding.
  • The applicant must be research competent and have a doctorate in occupational and environmental medicine, or equivalent.
  • Documented experience with method development using LC-MS/MS.
  • Experience in evaluation and compilation of biomarker data.
  • Applicants must have knowledge of environmental pollution analysis and toxicology, specifically about endocrine disruptors and bisphenols.
  • Documented ability to independently write reports and publish peer reviewed articles around these subject areas.
  • Good administrative skills.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Good knowledge of analytical chemistry and method development
  • Good knowledge of medicine and toxicology
  • Good knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling approaches.
  • Good knowledge in English.
  • Experience in management and analysis of biomarker data.
  • Experience in supervision and teaching.
  • Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Research expertise is the foremost criterion for employment. The evaluation of applicants will take account of their research profile, experience and knowledge.

Further information
The employment is time-limited to 2 years full-time, with the possibility of an extension for 1 more year. The employment is time-limited according to the agreement, “Agreement on limited-time employment as postdoctoral researcher-2022-02-01”.
