The Murphy lab focuses on basic and translational scientific research that seeks to benefit high-risk subsets of patients with Wilms tumor, the most common pediatric kidney cancer. Our patient groups of emphasis include those with anaplastic Wilms tumor, bilateral Wilms tumor, and relapsed favorable histology Wilms tumor with chemotherapy resistance. We seek to better understand how intratumor histologic and genetic heterogeneity evolve with chemotherapy treatment in Wilms tumor and may differ among multifocal or bilateral tumors in the same patient. We also seek to understand how epigenetically mediated blastemal-epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity relates to chemotherapy resistance and how it can be overcome using small molecule inhibitors of epigenetic modifiers.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate whose research will study intratumor histologic, genetic, and epigenetic heterogeneity in Wilms tumor samples as part of the biology aims of our ongoing institutional Wilms tumor clinical trial SJWT21. Part of this approach will be comparing drug sensitivity between paired organoid, tumor spheroid, and patient-derived xenograft models from the same patient source. Candidates with training in molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, and molecular genetics are welcome to apply.
