Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is currently in search of a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Center for Immunity and Inflammation (CII) at the New Jersey Medical School in Spring 2024. Under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Tania Wong, the Postdoctoral Research Scientist will perform standard laboratory procedures and analyses to support specialized research initiatives within the laboratory. Dr. Wong’s research is dedicated to understanding the impact of host-pathogen metabolic interactions on the outcomes of infections by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Our approach is translational, encompassing the utilization of clinical (host-adapted) isolates and laboratory strains in both in vitro and in vivo infection models to address questions with clinical significance.

We employ cutting-edge omics technologies, such as single-cell RNA-Seq, dual RNA-Seq, metabolomics, mass spectrometry imaging and proteomics to dissect the intricate interplay between host and pathogen. We focus particularly on the immunometabolic pathways exploited by bacterial pathogens to establish themselves in the human lung. If you are passionate about advancing our understanding of host-pathogen interactions and have the expertise and enthusiasm to contribute to our research endeavors, we invite you to apply for this Postdoctoral Research Scientist position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate independently and maintain well organized work practices
  • Design, perform and analyze experiments within established timeframes
  • Conduct scientific research in a responsible and ethical manner
  • Troubleshoot experiments as needed
  • Contribute to the overall efficiency of laboratory operations
  • Discuss data and develop new ideas/concepts
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences
  • Actively write scientific manuscripts and funding proposals
  • Provide scientific guidance and assistance to graduate students, summer scholars, and laboratory personnel as necessary
  • Collaborate on research projects
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and results
  • Uphold data backup procedures

Qualifications:Bottom of Form

  • A Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Biology or a closely related field
  • Strong foundation in immunometabolism, with a particular focus on the metabolic pathways that govern macrophage activation
  • Knowledge of bacterial pathogenesis and metabolism
  • Previous hands-on experience with tissue culture, transfections and multicolor flow cytometry
  • Proficiency in biochemical techniques such as immunoprecipitations, ELISAs, and immunoblotting
  • Experience with in vivo models of pneumonia, metabolic assays (including Seahorse extracellular flux analyses) and molecular techniques for the generation of bacterial mutants is advantageous
  • Training in bioinformatic analysis of large datasets is valuable, although not essential

Compensation:

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with both experience and standards recommended by the NIH.
